About
I write stories set in the 1800′s, which some days feels more real than now. Beauty inspires me, and I find so much beauty in the past. The curving tendrils of an Art Nouveau painting, the intricate carving on a Victorian bed, the daubed petals in an Impressionist painting, the quiet haunting melodies of a Chopin nocturne. History is so sensual, so alive, so pertinent and meaningful.
I live in Portland, Maine with my funny husband and two silly canines – a sleepy pug named Jane and a bouncy puggle named Rufus. I also give tours at the Henry Wadsworth Longfellow House, where the famous poet grew up.
Maine is an awesome place to live for a Victorian lover. There are so many original 19th century buildings and homes around here, plus Maine was heavily involved in the Civil War. Many aspects of the state’s history end up in my stories and story ideas – the shipbuilding trade, fishing, farming, small towns and coves, lighthouses, the arts and theatre. Dozens of famous Victorians lived here or visited, like Longfellow, Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, Nathaniel Hawthorne, John Wilkes Booth, Sarah Bernhardt, Frederick Douglass, Winslow Homer, Mark Twain, Louisa May Alcott, Henry David Thoreau and others.

I’ll read anything that keeps the pages turning, even if it may be outside my usual fare!
